The Fatalii is a prolific, Habanero type, from South Africa that is extremely hot. Plant grows to just over 2 feet tall by 2 feet wide with fruit 2.5 to 3.5 inches long by 1.25 to 1.5 inches wide, maturing from green to bright yellow. Wrinkled pods hang pendent, 1-3 per node. Looks somewhat like the "Devil Tounge" but is a smaller plant with not as much fruit with a little a different flavor. C. chinense
Late season fruiting so start a little early for northern climates. Space plants 18 to 20 inches apart in rows 3 feet apart in full sun.

When you cut them lengthwise, the rather thin-walled Fatalii pods are easy to dry. In more humid climates, you may have to use a dehydrator. Using a blender or old coffee grinder, you can turn the dried pods into a wonderfully hot and flavorful powder (store it in a cool, dry and dark place). The pods also freeze quite well, but their fruity fragrance is enjoyed best when fresh.
